Wintertime Dry Skin

In wintertime, which we currently are in, our skin gets extremely dry. I would like to discuss this next, because I know my skin gets dry pretty quickly and it hurts after a while due to itching.

Let’s first explore what is dry skin, reasoning behind dry skin and later discuss tips how to avoid dry skin.

Dry skin is a very common and gets quite worse in winter. In winter the environmental humidity is low or often known as “winter itch”. This can occur at all people of all ages regardless of any/all skin conditions.

You may be familiar to some degree with the appearance of dry skin.

  • Normal fine lines in the skin become more visible
  • Skin feels rough and appears dull and flaky

Dry skin usually occurs mostly on arms and legs, which can overall affect our body.

Dermatologists often call dry skin “xerosis” or “asteatosis“.
